Our delayed honeymoon

by singlemomseeking on July 30, 2011

At last, eight months after our wedding, we packed out bags and went on a real honeymoon. Actually, we packed our biking panniers — and took off on a cycling honeymoon!

When I showed our photos to a girlfriend, she said: “It looked fun — and strenuous.”

Exactly. We cycled for one week straight: 200 miles, with an elevation gain of almost 5,000 feet. I fell in love with the wildflowers, the billowing clouds, my husband who carried all the gear, and the valleys (time to go downhill… woo eee!)

In the spirit of fun, I’m having a contest:

If you can guess where we went on our honeymoon, I’ll send you a copy of my book, Single Mom Seeking.

The photos below will hopefully give you plenty of hints. If more than one of you guesses correctly, Random.org will choose the winner. And if you happen to be one of the friends (you know who you are!) who already knows where we went… sorry, but this disqualifies you. (The contest is open through Saturday, Aug.13 at midnight PST)

Here’s one more hint: We went to a place where English is not the native language.

The church poking out of the town looks like the cathedral in the city where I studied abroad 15 years ago. But I’m going to disqualify myself since I already won one of your books. If you did go to said city, oh my, am I jealous. But in a “you go, girl!” kinda way.

Where ever it is it is beautiful. Looks like Italy but it could be Spain. I know you had a great time.

The bacon (I believe; or long animal tongues) on the cupcake-tin cheese (*hint*), coupled with the wine glass (*hint*), makes me think France. Besides, you’re bicycling (*hint*), much like they do in the Tour De France every year.

Also, that looks like the proverbial “quaint French village” of some sort…

@Anne-Marie: I’d thought that I’d this contest way too easy with the anchovies. Apparently not!
We cycled through Andalucia, Spain.
That spire was in a little town called Olvera.

Holy moley! It looks just like Toulouse!!!! I guess it’s either been too long since I’ve been back to the Midi-Pyrenees or St. Sernin has a tower twine!

Sorry I made you spill the beans! Or really, the anchovies. But I ate those in spades in Toulouse, so never even conceived that it would be in Spain.

I’m glad it was lovely!
I am currently fantasizing about biking there right now!!!!!
