Ugh, the last time I did Christmas Cards my mom got involved and before I knew it, I was sending the picture cards I had made of Em and I to all of HER friends. It was a PITA!

Clearly I had no holiday spirit.

Oh, man. I would love to send out cards. I always mean to. I love getting them, I love the pictures, and I love the year-end summary holiday letters, even if they’re totally cheesy (and they always are). Seems like less and less people are sending real cards–let’s keep the USPS in business!

As the single mother of four with a professional career that eats up a lot of time for most of the year, especially right before the holidays, I simply had to take stock of my activities and simplify.

I decided one year, about a decade ago, to forego Christmas cards. It appears, no one missed it and it was hours of time that really created stress and another deadline for me. Funny thing, no one missed it and come to find out many of my friends and family got the same idea. They quit sending cards altogether. Maybe this is a regional thing I don’t know.

But these days, with the advent of the digital card? I might reconsider the entire Christmas card thing.

I thought I was actually going to send out a bunch of holiday cards before Thanksgiving this year, but since I wanted to make them myself and include a recent photo of me and my son, that didn’t happen (of course).

I’d love to be green and do e-cards only, but I know people expect cards and photos, especially since my whole family is 3,000 miles away. Happy New Year cards are a great idea, too…something I might consider in the future.

I really like the single parent cards you posted. The first one is really cute!

I haven’t sent Christmas cards since my first married Christmas in 2002. I’m terrible, I know. I’ll be lucky to get the decorations up before Monday!
