1. I send out 50+ holiday cards religiously the day after Thanksgiving, with special “Joy” stamps in every right-hand corner.
2. Whenever I get holiday photo cards from friends, I rip them open ASAP and stick those super cute kid photos to my fridge. I love ‘em!
3. Cardstore.com is giving away $100 gift certificates to TWO of you so you can order your holiday cards.
So, can you guess which one is the LIE?*
For those of you DO manage to get your cards out so that they really land before Christmas or Hanukkah, how do you do it?
Maybe this year, for the first time ever, I’ll actually get it together and make this happen. At least two of you will.
So, remember that post I wrote about waving away all those giveaways? Well, when the folks at Cardstore.com — which is based right here in the San Francisco Bay Area — called and offered $100 gift certificates to two of you, I couldn’t pass them up.
Here are my favorite styles so far:

In the meantime, I did work on my own holiday card this weekend. Um, see what you think:

So, two of you will get the chance to send out holiday cards free of charge, thanks to Cardstore.com.
All you have to do is leave a comment.
On that note, here are the winners of my book, chosen by Random.org. Congrats to:

* I always have the best intentions: to print and mail out holiday cards after Thanksgiving. After all, now that soccer season is over (Hello! My kid’s team became the league Champion this weekend!!) I DO have my weekends back. Before I know it, the holidays are here and I haven’t even uploaded our photo for the holiday card…

Definitely the first one is the lie. I’ve seen your fridge and I know you love pics of your friends and their kiddos!
I am usually ready to go with my holiday cards by now. Not yet… and I’m wondering if I’ll actually get around to it this year.
Congrats to M’s team!!

@T: I’ve got your photo with your girls on my fridge still, even after the move. Love it!
Off to read “Part 3.”
I am awful at Christmas cards… I think the only time I did them is when I was married and my wife did them for family and friends.

Haven’t sent out cards since becoming single mom…
Think I am finally ready. Some things take time, ya know?
On some years, I’ve sent out cards in the summer. I have more time then and can use summer vacation photos! A much warmer way to decorate the fridge.

How can anyone get holiday cards out the day after Thanksgiving!?! (I’m impressed.)
Yes, the photos are always the best. That is joy, seeing those who are far away and close to your heart, and having them up on the fridge for as many months as you can.
As for me – it’s been a day of little joys. Many. All thanks to my children, and very dear friends, who just seemed to know I needed a red balloon, a phone call, and everyone I care about accounted for.

I would imagine you don’t actually send 50 cards out the day after Thanksgiving. That would just be crazy.
I always think about it but my life’s been too hectic the last few years to do one of those newsletter things and I never have time to get the pictures I want. I guess I just need to make my list and get it done. The Holiday season is my favorite time of year…from now until New Years.

I’ve noticed that a lot of people have stopped sending holiday greeting cards, but I still enjoy doing so, and receiving them. The only difference is at first I was embarassed to list just my name and my daughter’s name instead of the three of us, and now (largely thanks to you!) I embrace my single parenthood, and I’m proud to share greetings from just me and my daughter. I don’t get them out the day after Thanksgiving, but I do always get them out early in December.
You’re all making me wish that I could get holiday photo cards of ALL of you and your kids. I’d love to see my fridge decked out that way!

I’m the same – photo cards go on the fridge (and I keep them up almost all year) and I intend to get them out late November, but it’s always closer to my birthday (December 10th). Of course, winning some photo cards might help the effort. *Wink*

I love Photo holiday cards. I keep them up year round. I only replace them when the next ones come. I then keep them in a photo box.
I use to work for Longs Drugs as the sales and marketing person for southern California before CVS bought them and laid me off. Yearly I had to train our photo personal on how to make photo greeting cards, I always had mine done early. This year I ordered mine from Snapfish about 3 weeks ago since I was able to get free shipping (saved myself about 7.00 on the shipping). As a single mom of a 4 year old sometimes this is the only picture family and friends get all year long.
I have them but they aren’t ready to go out yet. My goal each year is to get them in the mail by December 5 since I have a few that I send to Europe and want them there before the Holiday is over.
Last year I was able to get my daughter to help by licking the envelopes and putting the stamps on them. She loved it and even drew on the back of some of the envelopes putting her mark on them.
Awesome giveaway!
I would love to get mine out the day after Thanksgiving, but I don’t even have my cards yet this year so that isn’t going to happen. I usually do photo cards and I love to receive the photo cards with pictures of everyones family. It does seem like less people are sending out Christmas cards, but I like receiving them so I’ll continue to send mine!
First of all, thank you for the book! I am soooo looking forward to reading it. I tweeted about it. And I sent a mass text out to my friends saying that I might be losing at life, but I was winning online. They laughed.
And second, I haven’t sent out Christmas cards in years. I used to, but after a while it seemed so wrong to act like we were this happy couple/family on paper when we weren’t. This year, post divorce, is the first year I’ve felt really good sending out the love. I have plenty to spare.

In the past I’ve always had my cards ready to mail the day after Thanksgiving. Last year was a struggle to get them out by the 15th of December. This year, I haven’t even had the girls pictures taken yet. I need to get on the ball!
This will be my first year (Christmas) as a single-Mama. I’m pretty proud of myself and all of the hurdles that I’ve jumped in a fairly short amount of time. I left a bad relationship with my child’s Father, wen’t back to work after being a stay-at-home Mom for a long time, moved-back to my hometown. MANY things that I thought that I wouldn’t (Couldn’t) do – I’ve gained back my confidence, my strength and more. But of course like most single-Mom’s money is very tight – these free Holiday cards would be an AWESOME money-saver since I always send out cards AND I would LOVE to show everyone through the card how great we’re doing!
I’m horrible at sending out holiday cards on time. Plus, I often worried about offending my Jewish and Muslim friends by sending something too Christmas-y.
So now I send cards in January instead, and wish everyone a “happy new year”! I’m sure everyone realizes I’m just lazy, but I like to think that the thought comes across anyway.
I love sending out cards. I do it in waves throughout December. I carve out some quiet time and sit and get it done. It is a pleasure for me…because I like the old fashioned notion of wrtiting letters and notes and of course cards. Truly it is a pleasure to shop for cards and to write them out and mail them out.
Now the rest of my life…another f****** story entirely.
Happy Thanksgiving

I can’t tell you the last time I sent cards out. I always want to, but never seem to get around to it. The addresses were always the issue, but I don’t even have that excuse anymore because when we moved, I compiled a new address book so I could send out moving announcements… I did that, at least!
Everyone that knows me will be SHOCKED to get Christmas cards before January complete with new Daddy and Me address labels. Not sure what got into me this year. I’m always late for holiday and birthday cards!

I gave up on timely holiday cards the year I had twins and a 2 yr old. Now I call them “Happy New Year” cards and figure I have until the end of January to get them in the mail.

Wait — what’ s a nice Jewish girl doing dressed up as a reindeer?
I used to send cards out, and then I realized how totally un-eco-friendly that is. I see my friends who live close by around the holidays and celebrate with them, and the ones who live far away, I call. Maybe two or three cards.
I can’t tell if I’m hiding my laziness behind some “green” thing, but most of those cards end up in the trash. And as nice as it is for friends to see pics of my kids, most of us post ‘em on Facebook, anyway.
Am I being a Scrooge? Bah-humbug!
I’m going with no way you send out that many cards after thanksgiving!

I love, love the holiday cards that you have. I think #1 is a lie. Wow, 50?! If that’s for real, kudos to you!
I haven’t sent Christmas cards since my first married Christmas in 2002. I’m terrible, I know. I’ll be lucky to get the decorations up before Monday!

I thought I was actually going to send out a bunch of holiday cards before Thanksgiving this year, but since I wanted to make them myself and include a recent photo of me and my son, that didn’t happen (of course).
I’d love to be green and do e-cards only, but I know people expect cards and photos, especially since my whole family is 3,000 miles away. Happy New Year cards are a great idea, too…something I might consider in the future.
I really like the single parent cards you posted. The first one is really cute!
As the single mother of four with a professional career that eats up a lot of time for most of the year, especially right before the holidays, I simply had to take stock of my activities and simplify.
I decided one year, about a decade ago, to forego Christmas cards. It appears, no one missed it and it was hours of time that really created stress and another deadline for me. Funny thing, no one missed it and come to find out many of my friends and family got the same idea. They quit sending cards altogether. Maybe this is a regional thing I don’t know.
But these days, with the advent of the digital card? I might reconsider the entire Christmas card thing.

Oh, man. I would love to send out cards. I always mean to. I love getting them, I love the pictures, and I love the year-end summary holiday letters, even if they’re totally cheesy (and they always are). Seems like less and less people are sending real cards–let’s keep the USPS in business!
