Two truths and a lie

by singlemomseeking on November 23, 2009

1. I send out 50+ holiday cards religiously the day after Thanksgiving, with special “Joy” stamps in every right-hand corner.

2. Whenever I get holiday photo cards from friends, I rip them open ASAP and stick those super cute kid photos to my fridge. I love ’em!

3. is giving away $100 gift certificates to TWO of you so you can order your holiday cards.

So, can you guess which one is the LIE?*

For those of you DO manage to get your cards out so that they really land before Christmas or Hanukkah, how do you do it?

Maybe this year, for the first time ever, I’ll actually get it together and make this happen. At least two of you will.

So, remember that post I wrote about waving away all those giveaways? Well, when the folks at — which is based right here in the San Francisco Bay Area — called and offered $100 gift certificates to two of you, I couldn’t pass them up.

Here are my favorite styles so far:

Cardstore mother son

In the meantime, I did work on my own holiday card this weekend. Um, see what you think:

So, two of you will get the chance to send out holiday cards free of charge, thanks to

All you have to do is leave a comment.

On that note, here are the winners of my book, chosen by Congrats to:

Andrea and Nicki!

* I always have the best intentions: to print and mail out holiday cards after Thanksgiving. After all, now that soccer season is over (Hello! My kid’s team became the league Champion this weekend!!) I DO have my weekends back. Before I know it, the holidays are here and I haven’t even uploaded our photo for the holiday card…

Ugh, the last time I did Christmas Cards my mom got involved and before I knew it, I was sending the picture cards I had made of Em and I to all of HER friends. It was a PITA!

Clearly I had no holiday spirit. 😉

I got as far as buying my cards. They are still sitting on the coffee table waiting to be signed, addressed, stamped and sent.

Oh, man. I would love to send out cards. I always mean to. I love getting them, I love the pictures, and I love the year-end summary holiday letters, even if they’re totally cheesy (and they always are). Seems like less and less people are sending real cards–let’s keep the USPS in business!

As the single mother of four with a professional career that eats up a lot of time for most of the year, especially right before the holidays, I simply had to take stock of my activities and simplify.

I decided one year, about a decade ago, to forego Christmas cards. It appears, no one missed it and it was hours of time that really created stress and another deadline for me. Funny thing, no one missed it and come to find out many of my friends and family got the same idea. They quit sending cards altogether. Maybe this is a regional thing I don’t know.

But these days, with the advent of the digital card? I might reconsider the entire Christmas card thing.
