Slots of fun?

Update:
I’m on my way to the airport — and I have no idea who nominated me for The Bump Mommy Blog Award, but wow, thank you!!

If you’d like to cast a vote for yours truly HERE, I really appreciate it. And remember: thanks to the fact that YOU spoke up right here on this blog — after we’d been slotted to “miscellaneous” — The Bump added a Single Mommy category!

Thank you for voting for Single Mom Seeking!!

I’m packing my bags to head somewhere I’ve never been before. Clue: Some of you might have noticed those little badges on my sidebar recently?

Well, The Mind of Moms Summit has offered to fly me up to Tinsel Town (see correction below from Edgar. Thanks!) this week to speak at BlogWorld about “the importance of looking beyond the nuclear family.”

Of course, I emailed that sassy QTMama – whom I consider to be the Queen of Sin City — right away. She couldn’t believe that I’d never been, either.

“Oh my goodness! I’m so excited for you!” she wrote back. “Where are you staying?”

I’m sorry to disappoint you, QTMama, but I’m NOT staying on The Strip. Moreover (I can be such a stick in the mud!), I just found out my hotel is both smoke-free and “non-gaming.”

Oh, QTMama, are you disappointed? After listening to talks every day from 8:30 – 5 p.m., I just might go back to my room to read a novel in my smoke-less, game-free room.

In true QTMama form, she has given me some packing advice (gotta love that woman!):

“Bring a dress!” she tells me. “Dress sexy. You will also do a lot of walking — so be sure to bring shoes that you are comfortable in.”

Got it.

“People are friendly and nice,” she adds. “Everyone is there to have a good time — so don’t be surprised when you see people having a good time,” she adds. “Like, a REALLY GOOD TIME.”

Um–.

Then she adds a word of warning: “Don’t go to the ‘old strip,’ aka, Fremont Street, by yourself. Anywhere else, you’re going to be fine, but Fremont is not that great of an area anymore.”

Hey, QT, can I get your cell number if I have any trouble?

“And,” she adds, “if you want to see a cute Irish guy singing some fun Irish music, let me know.”

Thanks, sweetheart! In the meantime, I’m off to meet “The Moms,” who are as follows:

Barbara Jones — One2OneNetwork.com

Well, I have to say I disagree about Fremont Street. Jake and I go to Vegas 2 or 3 times a year, and we ALWAYS stay on Fremont Street. It’s the most fun in Vegas, and fine if you stay in and around the casinos. The sidestreets are a different story, but that’s true ANYWHERE in Vegas.

Jake wants to move there, we love it so much!

I think Honey is right, Fremont St is super fun! I am probably just more cautious when I know another single mama is traveling alone. While I’m sorry you’re not staying on the strip, I do hope you’re going to be walking the strip to see the sights! Bring a camera and have a blast girlfriend. :) I’m really excited for you!

@QT Mama: I’ve got the camera! And that Lucky Guy gave me a few bucks and made me promise to at least give gambling a lucky try. I know you’ve got my back, darlin’, and you’re just looking out for me. Thank you.

@Restless Mama: Thanks for voting! As another single mom pointed out, the contest appears to be a big rigged — meaning that you can just click away as many times as you want. Um, no thank you.

Rachel – just FYI, the term Tinsel Town usually refers to Los Angeles. Sin City is what they usually call Lost Wages (among other things, although the spin for the last decade or so is to try to sell it as a family fun destination). A good place to lose money, but the shows can be fabulous (Cirque du Soleil being one of my favorites). Definitely do not miss out on the Liberace Museum! With the ongoing drought and more coming with climate change, The Meadows may dry up and blow away some day soon.

How did you manage to land in a hotel in Las Vegas with no gaming? Are you staying at the Mormon Hotel and Pancake House? Cuz I hear they don’t serve coffee over there, either.

It was great to meet you! I’m glad you “crashed” our party! :)
