I’ve been working on some big things behind-the-scenes, and I can’t wait to tell you about them! So, thanks so much for being patient. Part of what I’m doing is lining up some amazing giveaways for you for the fall.
Just so you know that I haven’t forgotten about any of you, here’s a start:
Danny Evans from Dad Gone Mad cracks me up on a daily basis. Take one of his recent Tweets:
“My parents were at my reading the other night, when I read the words ‘studded cock ring.’ That went over well.”
Can you imagine?
Danny is referring to his just-released memoir: Rage Against The Meshugenah. When I heard that his first book just came out, I couldn’t wait to get a copy. It arrived yesterday.
“In his early thirties, Danny Evans had it all—a hot wife, a new baby, and a steady advertising job. Then, in the span of one week, a series of inauspicious events plunged Evans into a crushing depression… Nothing is off-limits on Evans’ quest—not even his analysis of the embarrassing and inconvenient sexual side effects of his get-well medication. It’s enough to drive a man insane. But Danny learns the hard way that he may just have to go a little crazy in order to find his way back home.”

There’s Danny with his “Hot Wife,” as he refers to her in his blog.
“Danny Evans demonstrates unequivocally that funny people get depressed, and depressed people don’t lose their sense of humor,” says Robert Rummel-Hudson, author of Schuyler’s Monster. “His memoir is honest and unblinking in its portrayal of how depression colors a life, and yet it is as funny a book as you’re likely to read. Wholly original, and a real pleasure to read.”
“Brutally honest, profoundly insightful and absurdly hilarious, Danny Evans’ memoir of depression is surprisingly not the slightest bit… depressing,” adds Rebecca Woolf, author of Rockabye. “Evans insightfully writes about his struggle with depression and it’s side effects with a sort of David Sedarisesque self-deprecating hilarity.”
I couldn’t help myself: I emailed Danny’s publicity department and asked if they might give away a copy of Rage… and they offered up two!

I do think every single parent blog needs a good married dad. it’s good to see all sides of life, including a single mom who found someone great!
thanks for the great blog Rachel.
As someone with my own struggles with depression, I would LOVE to read this book.
While there aren’t nearly as many single parent dad bloggers around, there aren’t a lot of married dad bloggers around, either.
Sounds like this could be a good read.
A funny read about depression? I so need to check this out whether I win or not. Maybe it’ll help this single mama get out of her own slump.
Cheers!

Definitely sounds like something worth reading. Not sure when I’d have a chance to make it through though. Does it come on tape?
Oh wait, make that “does it come in mp3?” I don’t think I even have a tape player anymore.

I would love to read this. Its nice to know that humor doesn’t die with depression.
Let me just add: I loved this book. Pure honesty. And I can’t believe that a book about depression really did make me laugh out loud every chapter.
