Contest: If you could throw a holiday party…

by singlemomseeking on November 16, 2008

The folks at Beaucoup recently asked if they could host a holiday giveaway to one special single parent at Single Mom Seeking.

Many of us, yours truly included, are feeling the pangs of the economy as the holidays approach. I figured this might be a good way to lift our spirits. Are you game?

Beaucoup offers one-of-a-kind party favors. My favorites are their environmental friendly gift bags, made with textured mulberry paper and  hand pressed natural flower petals. Mmmm.

So, here’s how the contest works:

If you could throw a holiday party and invite the man/woman of your dreams, tell us:

Who would the guest of your dreams be? (He/she could be a celebrity or just your average human being, on whom you have a crush.)

And, which of Beaucoup’s holiday party favors would you have at the party? (Go wild!)

Beaucoup will be choosing the winner in seven days — the winner will receive a $75 gift card to their site, just in time for the holidays!

I’d choose Scarlett Johansson just because of Lost in Translation and for the favors the mini cocktail shakers because you never know when you might be called upon to whip up a pomegranate martini or a perfect margarita on the rocks.

Well, I’m inclined to invite SMS, and QTmama, and Mommypie, and T, and One Woman Show, and no doubt all of my other favorite single mom bloggers. Then I would order a truckload of mini monogrammed brownie pops.

The evening would be spent composing blog posts using a variety of decorative and alphabetized chocolate treats. Whoever leaves the best comment gets to eat the whole shebang.

I’d invite my Grandma Donna who passed away when I was 12. We always had Christmas Eve (day and evening) at her house. After she passed away, Christmas Eve just wasn’t the same without her. Christmas Eve kind of got pushed to the wayside on my dad’s side of the family. I’d give anything to have one more Christmas Eve with her and my dads side of the family. The big turkey dinner, followed by each of us opening our gifts one by one all night long. Then falling asleep in mom and dad’s car on the way back to our house to wait for Santa.

If I could have Christmas with my Grandma Donna again, I’d choose the Beaded Christmas Napkin Rings. My grandmother’s tree had many decorations that resembled these napkin rings, and she’s be delighted to have them on her Christmas table.

My dream guest would be James, another single parent who I have yet to meet. The party favor would be the fortune cookies……fortune to follow

And if he weren’t available then I’d certainly go with Rachel. A PG party with the kids…probably the personalized mint tin. However, my daughter is old enough to babysit her adorable M so after the last dish is washed off we would go male hunting at only the poshest of places….with minty fresh breath!

I’d invite the Suffragette Women because they suffered ridicule, humiliation and severe abuse to my house for Thanksgiving. Without them, we women would have not been able to vote for our Barak Obama!

I’d choose the holiday cookies because we deserve the sweets!

Patrick Stewart. Or Stephen Colbert. Or Cesar Milan. Or Gordon Ramsay. Or Barack Obama. Too many to choose…

I’ve had a crush on the guy who delivers the bottled water to our office for a while now. Since my last attempt to ask out a complete stranger crashed and burned, maybe christmas-themed bribery will work this time.

Or maybe I will end up eating a ton of beau-coup chocolate alone on New Years.

I would invite my ex whom I was with for 8 years… (In the years since we broke up I’ve lost 70 pounds – I would love for him to ‘see me now’.)

As far as the favors, I would choose the snowflake bottle stopper. We have a great store locally that sells holiday wine… I would get everyone a bottle of “Electric Reindeer Wine” to accompany the snowflake bottle stopper.

Well, of course, I would invite all of you as honored guests – with Rachel being the most honored! (If Paul McCartney, Micky Dolenz, Ray Lamontagne, and my first teenage love with the dark brown hair, brown eyes, and slight little lisp were all unavailable)

And I would choose those little charm bags that have the little silver charms of peace, love, etc…

For a grown up holiday party I’d invite the guy I recently met I call the “man of my dreams” (of whom I haven’t even blogged yet!) I would definitely have the custom fortune cookies and have his to read…”All I want for Christmas….is YOU!” …

I’d invite Oprah, of course. I’d have her introduce each person as they arrived in that Ed McMahon “Heeeere’s Johnny” type of way.

I’d also invite John Rzeznik, rock star extraordinaire, just so I could stare at him.

And finally, I’d invite Kathy Griffin so that my little soirre would get included in her act.

Oh I am so not thinking like Angie! I have no idea who my guest of honor would be…but it would be a party for two and I think the mints would be a fabulous favor. (wink wink)

Is it totally lame that I cringe at the thought of putting together a grown-up party? sigh.

I would love to throw a holiday party for my kids and our family friends – get all the decorations and favors that are beyond my budget. The guests of honor would of course be my best little man and little miss! And from Beaucorp, I would choose the beautiful cookies!
