My son (7 years old) wrote to Barack about a week and a half ago. I told him that "Barack would read it, but may not be able to response because of all of the oodles of noodles of letter sent to him."

Saturday my son got a response, personalized with his name and our address. He was floored and so was I. He's going to frame it.

He went with me to vote. He was elated and so was I.

LEM: I've been thinking about how to respond to CCD's comment, and you said it much better than I could!

In my own life, I've always been very liberal. Since the first time I voted at age 18.

I voted for Obama because he seems to have the same values/vision I do. I'd venture to say the same for everyone in my community who voted for him.

I didn't vote for Obama because he's biracial; or because he was raised by a single mom. But, yes, those particular facts have certainly made this electoral outcome very emotional for me.

Anyone else? Want to add your two cents?

I want to piggyback off Crazy Computer Dad's comment because while of course it is a historical event because Obama is a black man, this election really was not about race. The people who made it about race are the true racists in this country. e.g., the Republicans who probably would have backed Obama had he been white, but just couldn't bring themselves to vote for him because he is black. I pray for those people...

It was reported that 61% of white Americans voted for Obama, while only 3% of blacks voted for McCain.

As a multi-ethnic, multicultural woman myself, I strongly believe that Obama personifies multiculturalism (as evidenced by his wide range of supporters) and I am hopeful that he will do a lot for race relations in this country.

my belgian friend, who is the head of the belgians for obama group, wrote me last night to tell me that we've given back dignity and hope to ourselves and the world.

i couldn't agree more.

I have soo many great stories and experiences about last night. I decided to go out and get some feed back from local strangers. The response varied, but the one that stays in my memory was 2 Persian women who have been in the USA since their teens. They stopped by to have a glass of wine on the way home... they were in tears. They were so happy.

Even in the heart of republican-land.. there are plenty of great people. :)

Hi Rachel

Huge congratulations on the Obama win. I think he has given a lot of people in this world hope that things are going to change for the better.

My favourite quote was the one that went something like "There are no red states, there are no blue states, there is just the United States". What a great orator.

Enjoy the next 8 years!

I'll be very happy when an election will no longer be considered historical simply because of the race or gender of the candidates.
