Share your good news… and win $100 gift certificate for dinner at PF Chang’s

It’s time for some good news, don’t you think?

Aleve contacted me recently because the company has just created a “Good News Choir Widget.”

Say what?

This is a new widget that gives you the chance to share your Good News with your friends — and blog readers, Facebook, Twitter, you name it.

Apropos of this announcement, Aleve is giving away a $100 dinner gift certificate to a PF Chang’s restaurant near you!

It’s easy: you type your message - a maximum of 50 characters - in the blank space and press “submit.” The widget will do the magic for you.

Here’s how the contest works:

In 50 characters or less, share your good news in the Comments section.

Your news can be about anything: your kid used the potty for his/her first time, your job gave you a bonus, your divorce is final. Anything at all!

The winner will be selected at random — which means that the kid will pick the winner out of a hat — on Wednesday, November 5.

P.S. If you win, let’s hope you go all out for a kids-free, grown up dinner at PF Chang’s. Of course, eating out with the kids is fun! But don’t you deserve one night off?

Ready, set, go….

  3. Shouldn’t the best news win? SMS could be the unbiased judge and then get all the wrath of the losers?

On Nov. 5th, the good news is that Obama is the new president-elect and he won by a landslide!

Oh, my good news… I won a bottle of wine on Saturday by running my fastest race ever and winning my age group (105 guys in their 40s) at the Wine Country Half Marathon. I then came in 9th overall in the full marathon on the following day.

  5. Dearest Phil: Hey, what happened to the 50 characters, silly! (Congrats on the race!)

I wanted to pick the winner, too! But I needed to sign a 4-page contract with Aleve to go forward with this contest… and they wanted to go for the random winner.

Going to check out that Angelfish photo now….

  6. As Barbie says, ‘Math is hard!’

You can disqualify me, I don’t live near any PF Changs anyways. I was confused and thought this was a running blog for a moment.

  11. On Monday my daughter survived her first highschool hearthrob breakup with minimal drama and response of “It doesn’t really matter. We were only friends anyways.” Three days later she is doing her hair for youth group but certainly not to impress a different boy whose name cannot be said without blushing.

  12. I saw the doctor today for symptoms suspiciously like warning signs of stroke (had one two years ago) - and it looks like it might be totally unrelated and that I don’t have to freak out about it all. Tests to follow to prove it out! woohoo

  16. Before I tell my good news, I want to tell SMS: Don’t worry about Carrie’s comment. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that it’s understandable that you need to make money (hello??)during these economic times, especially since you shared the recent job losses you suffered.

Moreover, your blog is awesome. In my humble opinion, it’s simply the best for single parents. I can relate to 95% of what you post, and it’s often my “escape” from an otherwise hectic, hurried day! Don’t give it a second thought…

  18. Thanks LEM, if you hadn’t posted that comment, I probably would have screamed.

A few weeks ago, I was thinking that I might have to give up the blog. The only reason I’m able to keep it going is because the ads allow me to pay for the kid’s health insurance (mine, too).

I’m making no money from this Aleve contest — they offered to give a dinner to a single parent, simple as that.

  21. Thanks to my daughter being invited to 2 sleepovers in a row, I’m about to have a virtually kid-free weekend! After trick or treating Friday (which I was informed that I didn’t have to attend… ha, as if I’d miss it), I am on my own until Sunday afternoon! Woo.

  23. Okay this is my last comment I swear! I just read the other comments and wanted to give a big WHATEVER DUDE to Carrie. We read this blog for free, so get over it. It’s like how basic TV and radio are free, but commercials are a necessary way of paying for that. Let a single mom make some money to support her family! Jeez. Like LEM said, don’t even worry about it. We love you.
