My Life

Firsts

A week of firsts in our family:

Mae is going with a school friend to her very first concert tonight. The Jonas Brothers.

I put a little box of earplugs in her backpack this morning, which mortified her. (”Mom!! That’s so embarrassing!) I keep thinking about those little ears of hers, I heard that the girls’ screeching almost drowns out the music.

Here’s a video that The Director (I mean, Mae) orchestrated this morning. Her directions: “Mom, when I tap my foot, that means you’re supposed to zoom in on my Jonas Brothers T-shirt, okay?”)

Okay. The T-shirt was a gift from Grandpa.

And my first?

I’m going to my first-ever BlogHer conference tomorrow. It officially kicks off with a pre-party in an hour, at an Alltop and Kirsty gathering on the stomping grounds of Guy Kawasaki. I’m off!

Any firsts out there? C’mon now, have you done something new this week? (Any first kisses as single parents out there? It’s never too late for a first!)

  1. My daughter loved loud music until she watched a National Geographic on the human body. Now she lets me know when music is too loud. She deals with concerts etc, but I hear about the volume for days afterward!

    Definitely protect those little ears!

I hope that you are going to post about the events you are attending. I am curious.

  2. I am not sure if its a PROPER first but Kiara had her first bottle free night on Tues!!! And we now seem to be bottle free! It was HUGE for us!!!!!

Oh and I was diagnosed with my FIRST lung infection - ever! That was fun too - NOT!

  3. a first and kind of…..after 16 years of not having a TV I bought one yesterday…kind of a first but the first is I went for the flat HDTV wall mount..32″.

In my defense I don’t have cable and I mounted it in such a way that a large painting sits over the screen so it’s a process to watch.

  4. Hmmmm…..no first for me, but littleman had a first! He’s a wee bit afraid of heights BUT decided to attack the HUGE climbing wall at camp anyway….and made it all the way to the top!

Oh wait! I do have a first…Single Working Mommy blessed me with my first award! ( proud :) )

  6. That little girl is so darn cute!!

Well, I roasted a whole chicken in the oven for the first time last night. Does that count?

My ex was the gourmet at our house so I’ve learned quite a bit but I don’t have the natural knack like he does. Still, the chicken was excellent!

I’m having a divorce party this weekend. Its a first. And hopefully the last!

  8. How funny! B is in her Joe Jonas shirt today! She adores Joe-who is Mae’s favorite? I’d be willing to be it’s not Kevin. The little girls aren’t much about him.
Mae is more adorable with every video.

  9. My daughter’s first - she spent this week at resident Girl Scout camp (I pick her up in a few hours). She’s been to overnight camps before, but not Girl Scout ones.

And while she’s been gone (I miss her, but loved the break!), my first - watching Weeds for the first time. Loved it. Watched the whole first season in a few days, in the evenings after work. I won’t be able to get through the rest so fast, not with the rugrat coming back home!

That video is so cute! What is she looking at? Is the TV on? LOL. My daughter thinks the Jonas Brothers are lame, but I think it’s just one of those things where something gets SO popular, it’s no longer cool to like them. Whatever!

  13. OK, SMS, no one took you up on this one, so I will. It wasn’t this week, but last week that I had my first kiss as a single mom. Loved it! We both did, so much so that we saw each other 5 days that first week. Yummy! I’m dating for the first time in 25 years and it’s so much better at this age than in my 20s! Hooray for Single Moms (and Dads)…and dating!

  15. Mae had SUCH a good time! She left the earplugs at her friend’s house. But she said, “Mommy, it was really loud. I plugged my ears.”

Jenn,Send pics! I don’t seem them on your blog.

Heather, so great to meet you at BlogHer, too!

Kelly, here’s to mama-time! I need to rent the last series of Weeds. I was surprised about how much I liked it. Great writing.

    Vinnie: There’s no rush, really!
