A child’s call to advertisers

Mae (who goes by “Mae Mae”) says that I spend way too much time with this laptop. She’s right.

Actually, her exact words are: “You love your computer more than you love me.”

So, I asked Mae if she had any ideas, so I can pull myself away from this machine.

“Let’s make a video, Mommy. I’ll ask–”

P.S. Before you wonder if my kid has an upcoming dentist appointment, yes, she does. Before you guilt-trip me (I do it enough to myself, thank you), she brushes at least twice a day and flosses every night.

If you could have one dream advertiser — with monthly giveaways to all of you, who would it be?

We all know that Mae would choose Mike and Ike candy.

And you?… Your local spa? Godiva chocolate? Royal Caribbean Cruises?

  1. I recently discovered Tarte - a cosmetic line - wonderful!

I’d love to know everyone’s make-up “must haves”. Any budget friendly beauty secrets to share?

  2. Dr. Leah,
I’m addicted to MAC, but unfortunately it is NOT budget friendly! highway robbery is more like it!

As for monthly giveaways, Starbucks would be my choice. Another budget-breaking obsession of mine! But I’m not picky. Anything free is a deal. ;-)

  3. I would agree about Starbucks. I try to limit it to one time every 2 weeks…hard to do.

Anything involving books and giveaways would be great. I am lucky to find time to read, much less shop for books and keep up on exciting new releases.

  4. LEM: Oooh, I love MAC, too, can’t recall the last time I treated myself. Right now, I’m a Sephora gal, with the Bare Essentials line.

Goin’ Crazy: Wow, that’s a coffee restriction for sure! What a treat. Great to hear that you’d be into book giveaways.

    (Hi Dr. Leah!)

  5. We won’t be bringing up my favorite “candy” here. :)

What a little dollie! If anyone watches that video and says a damn thing about your daughter needing to see a dentist, I say they need a lobotomy! Who thinks like that? She’s gorgeous!

  6. Chanel. But Sephora would do, since jetting up to Montreal isn’t the cheapest way to get my Chanel products anymore. I’d love Chanel to advertise on my blog. Second choice, probably Coach. Or Limited Too…that’s who my little B would choose.

She’s so darn sweet. I love MIke and Ike’s too.

  7. That was freakin’ adorable… Go Mike and Ike all the way!! :)

  8. No BS but I’d like my local grocery store to have give aways so I could bring it to the local food bank.

  9. make-up - benefit (young clean and fresh looking. If you haven’t tried it go for it. A friend of mine who is a make-up analyst for Nordstroms turned me onto it )

    coffee - Tully’s - never Starbucks

    books - Barnes and Nobles

    other advertisers: AMAZON….
    ST. MICHELLE WINERY…..ABSOLUT….
HOME DEPOT (ok practical not fun)

but I echo that free is free and anything would be awesome!!

  10. Let me throw out something controversial . . .

Anyone a devoted Dunkin Donuts drinker? Anyone made the switch from Starbucks to DD coffee?

What is the single mom/dad coffee brand of choice?

(My vote: Green Mountain, but always looking for something new; I really absolutely love coffee!)

Posted by Dr. Leah | July 2, 2008, 8:10 am
  11. Dr. Leah,
I actually love DD coffee. I haven’t switched, but I used to alternate since Starbucks is so darn expensive. But now that the economy is in a slump and Starbucks’ business is hurting (they’re closing 600 stores, nationwide, by years end), they’re coming out with all kinds of incentives and promotions, at least where I live.

And I agree wholeheartedly with book giveaways. I’m always looking for good reads. (Looking forward to SMS 2e!)

  12. Trojan Magnums. Oh wait, that was your other post… Mike and Ike is the BEST CANDY ON EARTH, btw. And Mae’s headband is gorgeous on her.

  13. Haha… Yes! Condom advertisments! Hmm… Whole Foods? Books? I really like the book ads I see on other blogs I read which may or may not involve the word “fug”. Aveda?

Anyways, best of luck finding more advertisers so that Mae can have more candy! And snuggles.

  14. Oh man, I have so heard that line you love the computer more than you love me. The funny thing is that I do not use the computer much at home outside scrap book pages!

Books, books, and more books! (Or travel packages!)

  15. I’m partial to Hot Tamales. But I think chocolate is a great idea. Victoria’s Secret? I rarely get to “indulge” myself in something pretty. Also, laughing aside, I think the Home Depot is a GREAT idea.

  16. Maid service would be nice. Go Go Molly Maids!

  17. I LOVE Dunkin Donuts but we don’t have them here in Seattle. I worked there all through high school when I lived back east. I am a Tully’s drinker and don’t go near Starbucks….don’t like the taste

  18. What an adorable little girl! My two were watching with me and then pranced around the apartment mimicking mae mae :)

My special treat I would adore giveaways — Blick Art Supplies!!

I like Dan’s idea of maid service and echo any books, stationary, notebooks etc. I thought your sittercity giveaway was great (too bad I don’t have the spare cash to pay the sitter!!)

Or maybe An aStore with all your favorite beauty products, books, coffee and special deals to tie in the rest of the ideas?

Maybe Proflowers, or something that would allow single mamas to do their gift shopping, or allow the single mamas kids to buy presents for their mamas.
