Where Do You Stash Your Sex Toys?

good-vibrations.jpg That’s what I want to know this week at BabyCenter.com. As a single mom, especially, it can be challenging to maintain even just a corner of personal space. Even just an inch of personal space.

In my BabyCenter.com blog, I remember the morning I walked into the bathroom to find my kid holding a Trojan Condom, still smartly packaged in gold. What the–??

So, where do you store your, uh, “supplies”? How do you keep them out of your kid’s reach? (Mine are now in a plastic bin, up high and behind the sheets, in the hall closet.)

One mom remembers the time her son found some lubricant on her bedside table.

“He asked what it was. I blurted out, “Floor cleaner!”

His response: “Mommy, our floors don’t look so good. You need more of this.”

That mama sure is quick on her feet.

When my daughter found a bottle of lubricant beside my bed, I made the mistake of telling her it was “a special body lotion.” Of course, she promptly pushed on the dispenser to try some out. “It’s sticky,” she said.

Great, just great.

Where’s your secret space? A file cabinet with a lock and key? A cereal box under your bed?

  1. That would mean that people are having sex in their homes? ;)
    Lucky them.

My special body lotion is kept in my sock drawer, in a pair of socks. I’m not that originial, what can I say?

  2. Sex toys? Sex (anywhere)? As a not-yet-divorced/not dating single mom, I have no such toys. As well, I couldn’t even tell you the last time I saw an R-rated movie! But I’m ok. with all of this…for now. ;-)

  3. You two crack me up. In a pair of socks? That is original, what are you talking about?

  4. Well I have a bit of a collection. The majority lives in a cosmetic bag at the top of my now ex-husbands old closet …that’s not too clever but it does feel a bit like an f-you to the ex. I do have a nondescript one (read one that looks like it’s made to work out the tension in your neck…and not your…uhm) in the drawer with all of my bras. That’s the one I use most often…frankly I’m not as worried about my kids finding my toys as I am about my mom (who is oh so helpful but disturbingly old fashioned) finding my birthcontrol…because in her world not being married means I most certainly wouldn’t need such a thing!!!

  5. As a single mom, right now I can’t even afford a sex toy! I buy the cheapies and they burn out fast. The manual stimulation ain’t too shabby though!

  6. I guess I’m risky. My goods are in a bottom drawer with sweaters on top. The girls could go in there anytime, which would leave me having to explain. You got me thinking I should move the stuff. I have one item made specially for solo me and the remaining items are for two, which hasn’t happened in ages. And I don’t see the stuff being used in the near future, either. Maybe I’m just getting used to this life.

  7. I think I’m in Jenn’s situation — sadly for me, this seems to be a persistent lack of anything BUT sex toys that are stimulating. So, I’ve been keeping things in my nightstand. I know, how cliche. And probably stupid. I was just thinking the other day I had better find a more secure locale…my kids aren’t snoopers, but still.

This reminds me of an ad that I think was on British TV. It showed an elderly lady at her daughter’s or granddaughter’s home who hears something in the couch cushions. She pulls out a vibrator and holds it up to her ear, thinking it was the phone.
