This was the toast raised to single mom Beth Saidel, a university administrator, by her colleagues at Barnard University.

At first, my only hang-up about this article was the fact that it was written by a married mom. As a single mom freelance journalist whose story ideas have been rejected by Babble.com many times, I was throwing my hands in the air… “No fair, guys.”
But maybe it takes an objective, on-the-sidelines married mom to say:
“…there is something truly progressive about women taking a stand for the domestic, for children and the joy parenting brings to your life, even if it means giving up some of the benefits of being single without gaining the financial and emotional advantages of marriage.”

My answer to this is All Of The Above! Thank goodness for doting grandparents who live 5 minutes away, plenty of single mom friends to share the burden with, and lots of TV to get away from it all once in a while!
Well, for me it is pretty much just me. Giving all I’ve got. My parents are 10 hours away. On becomming a single mother I moved to a new town and making friends I have found is very hard to do…although I do have some long distance friends. The first 3 years I was a total recluse. I didn’t even have cable TV until a year ago so, so much for that idea. The Latch Key program before and after school is a great help, but also a huge chunck of my paycheck. The park down the street has provided us with endless amounts of entertainment as well as bike rides.
