Single Mom Hit by Drunk Driver

Support is a big word in my vocabulary. And right now there’s a single mom who needs your support:

Sara Cole, the single mother of four sons, was nearly killed by a drunk driver this month in Los Gatos, CA.

On Sept. 12, as Sara was unloading her son’s bicycle next to the Los Gatos Little League field, a drunk driver slammed into her. She has for sons, ages 6 to 15, who all play sports.

KCBS Reporter Matt Bigler reported that:

Just minutes before the accident, the driver called his boss, telling him that he was too drunk to come into work.

“But he made that phone call, so he consciously knew ‘I’m too drunk, I cannot come to work, but I’m not too drunk to get behind the wheel of my truck and go plow the mother of four children’,” said Sara’s ex-husband, Bill Cole.

The driver, Lucio Rodriguez Rodriguez, 27, allegedly fled the scene and was later arrested for hit and run and DUI. He’d been convicted of drunk driving just 8 months ago. According to the police report, he was unable to stand on his own when officers asked him to get out of his car.

Sara will undergo yet another surgery to repair the extensive damage done to both of her legs. To contribute to the family’s expenses, send a check to the Sara Cole Fund, 1366 W. La Chiquita, Los Gatos, 95032.
