Mae and her Mama… Thanks to My Girlfriends Who Took the Shots!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I often ask single parents how they document their lives by photo/video. When I’ve looked through the 1000s of photos in boxes under my bed, and on my computer, there are so few mother-daughter photos. What can a mama do?
Fortunately, I DO have friends and family to ask, “Please take our picture?”
What do you do?
One single mom purchased a tripod, and she sets her camera on tripod to capture those mother-daughter moments. She says that a stack of books or table will do also, “just angle it right.” Great idea!
Good question - even many partnered moms are not in the photos because they are too busy taking the photos. I don’t have anyone to do it - and my kids being teens means they’d rather clean their room than have their picture taken (ok, a slight exaggeration). The photos are few and far between these days, but when we do have them, I make sure they are good ones!
While I’m currently only using disposable cameras (I usually buy several at a time or an economy pack), I take pictures of every major event in my daughter’s life (e.g., her birthday, holidays, her participation in a pageant, her first day of preschool), then I label them and put them in individual mini albums. These keep our pictures organized, they take up very little space, and most important, make it easy to locate the pictures from a particular event when I need to! I have these mini albums lined up like books on a shelf in our family room and they’ve become quite a conversation piece when family nd freinds come over, plus they’re easy to travel with.
